‘Sneaky’: Chris Sutton and Alex Scott drop Everton star verdict amid exit talk

Chris Sutton and Alex Scott have backed Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite to earn a “sneaky” call-up to the England Euro 2024 squad.

Due to his fantastic play for the Toffees this season, the center back has been linked to a high-profile departure from the team, with Manchester United reportedly showing interest in a transfer.

The 21-year-old has also been mentioned as a possible addition to Gareth Southgate’s national team roster for March. During an appearance on Football Focus on February 24, the pundits stated that he might make the squad for the major tournament this summer in the event that one or more of the regular additions get hurt.

She questioned before Sutton answered, “Do you think the Euros are too soon for him?”

“I believe Gareth to be a little bit picky. He enjoys tried-and-true. However, Branthwaite has put himself in the picture, so I believe he’ll be there if there are any injuries.

Scott continued by saying that if things went his way, he might get a “sneaky place” in the side.

His qualities are obvious to everyone who has watched Everton and Branthwaite this season, and they will undoubtedly be thrilled with his progress.

He clearly has a good understanding of how to handle games when his team is playing well, having spent the previous season on loan at PSV Eindhoven. Sean Dyche has also assisted him in developing his first-team defense skills.

He is an excellent option in a back-three or back-four due to his ball-handling skills, and at 6 feet 4 inches, he has great athleticism as well.

But as Sutton points out, Southgate is well-known for favoritism inside the England team. For a considerable amount of time, Harry Maguire was getting in at Manchester United despite playing little. Players like Kalvin Phillips have also been called up frequently.

England have a lot of choices in central defence, so there’s no rush to get Branthwaite in the summer but they also won’t be any worse. In the upcoming years, he will be a regular member of the team and receive his caps.
