Rumors about the Raiders: Is WR Hunter Renfrow finally leaving Las Vegas?

Hunter Renfrow was thought to be the best slot receiver in the NFL a few seasons ago. The Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver finished the season with 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns, earning him a spot in the Pro Bowl in 2021.

Renfrow was awarded a two-year, $32 million contract extension by the Raiders, but he would only play in 10 games in 2022 due to injuries. Renfrow was expected to have a breakthrough season the previous year, but instead he had the worst year of his career.

Renfrow has reportedly been up for trade for the past year, but the Raiders were unable to come to an agreement. However, as of right now, Pro Football Focus reports that the Raiders have all the necessary financials to cut Renfrow this offseason:

Given that Las Vegas has been trading Renfrow in trades for over a year, this move has been simmering for a while. The economics finally match the roster choice with Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers as the obvious one-two, and rookie Tre Tucker’s steady rise.

The Raiders would save up $8.2 million in salary cap space by dismissing Renfrow, which is a good amount of money for a player who isn’t really getting used. Without a doubt, the top two receivers are Adams and Meyers. Tight end Michael Mayer should also play a bigger role, and Tre Tucker, who started to show signs of promise late in the last year, should also get more playing time.

Renfrow, who appeared to be a key player for the Raiders two years ago, has had a quite unexpected fall from grace. However, he still has a lot left in the tank, and switching to a squad that can truly use his skill set would be refreshing.

Actually, at this point, splitting Renfrow and the Raiders is probably best for both parties.

QB for the Raiders Jimmy Garoppolo is out for the first two games of the next campaign.

Jimmy Garoppolo, the quarterback for the Raiders, is another player they almost definitely plan to cut this summer. Although Garoppolo signed a three-year contract with the team last year, he was benched midway through the season. And by cutting him, the Raiders may now be able to save even more money.

Due to a violation of the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy, Garoppolo has been suspended for the first two games of the 2024 season. Garoppolo’s base salary guarantee for the upcoming season may be nullified due to this infraction, which would save the Raiders almost $10 million.
