Rangers risk losing multi-millions if they copy Celtic transfer ploy – Kris Boyd

Rangers risk losing multi-millions if they copy Celtic transfer ploy – Kris Boyd.

According to Kris Boyd, Rangers risk losing millions of pounds if they follow Celtic’s lead and make the same transfers.

Celtic reported a £32 million profit before tax in its interim PLC report for the six months ending December 2023 on Friday [23 February].

However, Celtic fans were dissatisfied with the club’s inactivity throughout the January transfer window, as Rangers signed a few players.

Boyd expressed support for Celtic’s ‘buy low, sell high’ strategy in a commentary for The Scottish Sun on February 23.

“The Parkhead board has been pummeled in recent months, but it’s been a successful product throughout the years. The biggest issue with this method is that one or two faulty windows can be extremely devastating.

“The Rangers learned this the hard way a couple years back after winning the league. If they had added a few more items of quality, they could have done better domestically.

“However, a few disastrous transfer windows allowed Celtic to reclaim their domestic dominance. Performance levels at Ibrox fell because several new recruits did not strengthen the squad.

“Celtic’s model is one Rangers will also use – but if your scouting and judgement isn’t spot on, millions can be wasted.”

Rangers made their transfer strategy apparent in the January window.

Celtic can stage an open-top bus parade through Glasgow at the conclusion of the season since they won the spreadsheet war.

As Boyd says, it is all well and good to make money, but what you do with it is what really matters.

Rangers had a poor summer of transfer activity, yet many of their underperforming players have now begun fire under Philippe Clement.

The Gers’ transfer strategy for the next few years is clearly clear: bring in some hidden stars with opportunity for progress, with Mohamed Diomande being a prime example.

Boyd believes this type of deal may backfire, given his £4.5 million price tag, but the club’s scouting network evidently liked what they saw.

Unlike past administrations, Nils Koppen’s administration has a clear transfer policy in place. Some moves will undoubtedly be duds, but you can bet there will be more hits than misses in the future windows.
