On February 19th, Sunderland sacked Michael Beale, eight weeks after appointing him as their new manager.
The Black Cats considered other alternatives before he arrived, such as Will Still of Stade de Reims. The manager disclosed that Sunderland had demonstrated “concrete interest” in him two months prior.
Due to Beale’s dismissal and his declaration that he would really like to come to England, the 31-year-old is once more being linked to Sunderland.
L’Equipe highlights Sunderland’s resolute interest since December of last year. They go on to say that the reports about the English club reviving their interest and Still’s recent interview have put his future back in the spotlight.
It’s said the Ligue 1 side’s leaders are trying to ‘calm things down’ with the Sunderland linked manager’s future. Reims president Jean-Pierre Caillot has now responded to Still admitting his desire to manage in England.
“When you are young, it’s not illogical to talk about the future. To say that he’s ambitious and imagines himself coaching a club in England is just an honest message. Afterwards, his message must not be distorted or misunderstood, that’s what he must be vigilant about,” he said, as quoted by L’Equipe.
With Mike Dodds taking over as interim manager until the conclusion of the season, Sunderland will have enough time to name Beale’s long-term replacement.
Marek Papszun, a Polish coach who is currently without a club, expressed interest in leading the Championship team earlier this week, according to WP SportoweFakty.
