Crystal Palace will take on Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday (24 February) at Selhurst Park in Oliver Glasner’s first game in charge.

The Eagles fired veteran manager Roy Hodgson last week due to the team’s terrible performance. The club swiftly named Glasner as his replacement after deciding it was time for a change.

Palace has some talented players, but they have suffered greatly from the injuries to important players. Hodgson has to shoulder some of the responsibility, of course, and by the end of the night, things were toxic within the club. Glasner, nevertheless, is certain that the present team can perform better than its current league standing indicates.

Although the 49-year-old is not a miracle worker, BBC analyst Chris Sutton thinks Palace will be excited to play this game in their new manager’s presence and has picked Palace to win 1-0.

Glasner has acknowledged that he has chatted with a few of the club’s veteran players, who are more knowledgeable about the league than he is. He has encouraged them to lead by example on the field.

What Glasner said to Crystal Palace senior players

“With the players here, we have many players who are in the Premier League for several years: Jordan Ayew, for example, and JP Mateta,” said Glasner.

“They know the Premier League better than I do, so I spoke with them and said: ‘trust in your qualities, I want you to lead the team on the pitch.’ Not just them, we have several: Joel Ward, the captain, and many players.”

Glasner won’t be too happy with how things have gone so far when he looks at the Premier League and the form guide. With just five points more than Luton Town, the Eagles are presently at fifteenth in the standings. Glasner needs to stop this decline as soon as possible because they are dangerously near to the dropzone.

In their last five Premier League games, they have only managed one victory, and in their last 14 league games, they have only managed two. The Eagles enter this match fresh off a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park with Everton, and Glasner may take a lot of encouragement from that result.

Similar to Jurgen Klopp, Glasner is renowned for his aggressive style of football play. The new Palace manager, nevertheless, has acknowledged that he would have to take his time implementing his ideas and that it is not feasible to create a new system all at once.

It makes perfect sense because the Crystal Palace players aren’t used to playing this way, and it might backfire to make big changes in the last stretch of the season.
