Ex Buckeyes QB Coach Hired By Ole Miss Rebels.
Former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterbacks coach Corey Dennis has a second new home in less than a month. Dennis departed the Buckeyes program after Bill O’Brien was hired as its offensive coordinator and moved on with Kyle Whittingham’s staff with the Utah Utes. Just over two weeks after stating he was with Utah, Dennis is relocating again to join Lane Kiffin’s staff at Ole Miss.
Dennis began his stint at Ohio State in 2015 as a coaching intern before becoming a graduate assistant for the 2016-17 season and a senior quality control coach in 2018-19. The 31-year-old has served as the Ohio State quarterbacks coach since 2020 but was not retained when O’Brien took over the offense before becoming the head coach at Boston College.
Dennis is the only one of three coaches who were let go following the 2023 season who has found a new home. Former safeties coach Perry Eliano and Parker Fleming, who coached special teams, have not been hired after departing the program in January. The Buckeyes are filling out their own coaching staff under Ryan Day, with the recent promotion of former graduate assistant James Laurinaitis to linebackers coach. That followed on the heels of the former UCLA Bruins head coach Chip Kelly being named offensive coordinator – replacing O’Brien, who left Columbus to be the head coach at Boston College. “It’s our job every year to identify what areas need to be adjusted, whether it’s with the team or with the staff. And we’ve worked extremely hard, we’ve spent a lot of time thinking to make sure the right guys are in the right seats. So now it’s time to go to work,” Day said Friday from the Ohio High School Football Coaches’ Association clinic.
