Everton: Martin Keown hits back at Simon Jordan live on talkSPORT over appeal ‘meltdown’ verdict

Everton: Martin Keown lashes back at Simon Jordan live on talkSPORT over appeal ‘meltdown’ ruling.

Martin Keown and Simon Jordan have argued live on air after the latter talkSPORT broadcaster indicated Everton players were suffering a “real meltdown” over the current appeal process.

The Toffees have appealed against their 10-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability criteria, but have still to learn the verdict of the hearing, much to the anger of players and supporters alike.

The problem was once again a hot topic of conversation on talkSPORT with Jordan questioning why the players would be feeling uncomfortable about the scenario.

Speaking on talkSPORT on February (23 February, 10:26) he said: “The appeal was only heard in January, so it doesn’t become instantaneous. You can only control the controllables.

“If these players are in a state of anxiety over an appeal that is only going to make their position better, then they’re going to be in a real meltdown when they realise that there are more penalties coming down the line. They’ll spend their lives in a continual state of anxiety, it’s ridiculous.

“Is it ideal? No. Do you know what your fate is? Yes you do, you know your fate is 10 points therefore all you’re waiting for is something greater. In the meantime, you get on with your job.”

Keown struck back saying: “It might help their opponents though. It might benefit them, even if you’re Sheffield United, you might believe if both those teams Nottingham Forest and Everton are going to drop even more points, you might be brought back into the equation.”
When will Everton learn the decision of their Premier League appeal?

While Jordan is right to imply Everton players’ should be concentrate on problems on the pitch, it is highly difficult to expect players to merely not care about big events off of the field, especially when they could be season-defining.

As Keown stated, several teams in the relegation battle will be licking their lips at the prospect the Toffees could be facing consecutive deductions as it substantially enhances their chances of surviving the drop this term.

The appeal has been heard and a decision should definitely have been made by now, especially considering how important a subject this is. Supporters and players alike are within their rights to be irritated by this circumstance.

It is only exacerbated by the dearth of developments about 777 Partners’ takeover with everyone on the blue half of Merseyside entirely in the dark over whether the American investment firm will finally acquire Farhad Moshiri’s controlling interest.

In other Everton news, David Dein has apparently been in contact with the Premier League concerning 777 Partners’ purchase.
