Everton: Chris Sutton blown away by ‘unbelievable’ Jarrad Branthwaite moment v Brighton
Chris Sutton was blown away by the “unbelievable” goal scored by Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Branthwaite struck the top corner with a soaring shot to give Everton the lead with 73 minutes on the clock at the Amex Stadium.
That was the centre-back’s second goal in four Premier League outings, having also tallied against Tottenham recently.
Speaking on BBC’s Final Score [24 February, 4:36pm], Sutton said: “It’s an unbelievable finish, from a centre-half as well. It’s a left-foot thunderbolt into the far corner. What a strike.”
Jarrad Branthwaite attracting Premier League interest.
Branthwaite is a good defender first and foremost. He has developed a reputation as being one of the top central-defensive prospects not just in English football but anywhere on the continent.
The England international in waiting is also demonstrating that he can pitch in with some vital goals at the opposite end, with this goal coming a few weeks on from the late equaliser against Spurs.
Branthwaite was able to set himself for the shot inside the Brighton box and he fired an effort out of the reach of Bart Verbruggen — a finish any striker would be proud of.
Given his increased ability to also find the net, it may just add an extra few million onto Branthwaite’s price tag. Everton will not contemplate selling the defender anytime soon, though, even if interest in him is mounting.
More performances like this, however, and it will likely become more and more difficult to fight off those interested clubs.
