BBC commentator shares what Lawrence Shankland did today to ‘Delight’ Rangers fans v Hearts

Rangers fans ‘delight’ at what Lawrence Shankland did in Hearts loss at Ibrox – BBC commentator

Lawrence Shankland generated “delight” among Rangers fans at Ibrox when he reacted with “frustration” to being substituted in Hearts’ 5-0 defeat, according to Liam McLeod.

On BBC Radio Scotland on February 24, the commentator recounted the “almost perpetually linked” striker’s irate response after being withdrawn in the 79th minute, including throwing his captain’s armband.

McLeod added at 4.41pm: “Here come the changes and Lawrence Shankland is going to come off for the last 12 minutes, they want to keep him fresh for the derby during the week.”

To applause from the Ibrox crowd, he added: “He tosses the captain’s armband away in frustration, much to the delight of Rangers fans.”

“He was almost constantly linked with a move here in January, much to the annoyance of Hearts fans.” It has not been his afternoon, as he is unable to maintain his scoring streak.”

Lawrence Shankland furious on return to Rangers as Hearts ripped apart at Ibrox.

Despite being undoubtedly the star of the show when the Jambos came within minutes of a historic Ibrox triumph on October 29, his most recent visit was anything but.

On that day, he scored a fantastic goal and played well in defense, sparking speculation of a potential switch to the Gers, since opposite number Cyriel Dessers struggled.

While Shankland hit the post late in defeat as Rangers moved five points clear of Celtic, he could do nothing to stop the home side’s attack, with the Nigerian scoring just before and after halftime to secure the points.

The Gers man’s first goal came in the 44th minute off a magnificent John Souttar assist, and the second came in the 48th after a lengthy VAR review for handball, as he controlled a wonderful Dujon Sterling cross.

Shankland is expected to join Rangers in the summer unless he accepts a contract extension with Hearts. However, Philippe Clement’s team is currently in good form and could still win the title without him, with Dessers and Fabio Silva contributing three of their five.
