An analysis of the 49ers’ 2024 away regular-season opponents.

As general manager John Lynch stated, even if the 49ers were not able to win the Super Bowl, they should utilize it as motivation for the upcoming campaign.

In the 2024 NFL regular season, the San Francisco 49ers will host eight teams, two of which are AFC teams. The Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins are two teams that are always in the running for the playoffs.

Although the precise dates are still unknown, it’s never too early to start planning for the upcoming season.

Cardinals of Arizona

Since 1951, the 49ers and Cardinals have faced off in games; the 49ers have an all-time record of 36-29. Both clubs have been NFC West division rivals since 2001, and their matches have been fiercely contested for the previous 23 years.

SF has been the more successful team in recent years, having defeated Arizona in each of the last four meetings. The last time the two teams played, the visiting 49ers prevailed 45-29 in Week 15 of the 2023 regular season. Still, the 49ers had 436 fewer yards overall at the end of the game than the Cardinals, who had a 90-yard advantage on the ground.

These divisional matches, which they will face twice more in 2024, ought to be competitive for the foreseeable future.

The Buffalo Bills

The 49ers and Bills have played each other for the first time in 1972, therefore their history is brief but extensive. After that, the games have gone back-and-forth, with Buffalo holding a 7-6 series advantage overall.

The Bills Mafia, who are presently enjoying a two-game winning streak, have lately grabbed control of this matchup. When the two sides last faced off in 2020, Josh Allen and company, the quarterback, prevailed 34–24. The last time SF defeated the New York team was 45-3 in 2012.

The 14th episode will need San Francisco to travel across the nation to Buffalo the following season.

Packers in Green Bay

The 49ers and Packers have been involved in a rivalry since 1950. After 73 meetings between the two teams, the latter has the advantage 38-34-1.

But San Francisco has been winning lately—they are presently enjoying a two-game winning run. The 49ers defeated the team from the other franchise 24–21 in the NFC Divisional Round of the 2024 postseason. Robbie Gould’s last-second field goal in 2022 gave the Red & Gold the victory in that game as well.

In 2024, the two NFC titans will square off again, this time at Lambeau Field.

Rams of Los Angeles

The 49ers and Rams, who have had the greatest rivalry in the NFC West for the past five years, will play twice more in the upcoming season.

After meeting for the first time in 1950, the two rivals have now squared off in 150 NFL games. At 78-69-3, San Francisco holds the all-time record against their division rival. The 49ers had won three straight games before the Rams’ most recent victory, which came in Week 18 of the previous season (21–20). Previous to that, the Rams had lost six straight games.

The 49ers have been dominant in recent memory, and that is the purpose.

Dolphins of Miami

Despite having only played 15 times together, the 49ers and Dolphins are closer than ever thanks to their respective coaching staffs.

The all-time record is currently held by Miami (8-7), although that could alter in 2024. When the teams last faced up in 2022, the 49ers prevailed 33-17. The fact that quarterback Brock Purdy came in for the injured Jimmy Garoppolo in the first half of that game will always be remembered. And the rest is history, as we are all aware.

Purdy and company will go to Florida in 2024 to see a game between two playoff contenders.

Minnesota Vikings

Having played the Vikings three times in the previous four seasons, the 49ers are all too familiar with them. For decades, the series has been fiercely contested, with SF holding the all-time advantage of 25-24-1.

But in their previous meeting, Minnesota triumphed, as quarterback Kirk Cousins torched the 49ers’ defense in Week 7 of the previous year. After the game, which ended 22–17, defensive coordinator Steve Wilks’ resignation began to spread.

The Red & Gold will return to Minneapolis in 2024 for another NFC matchup.

The Seattle Seahawks

And lastly, maybe the fiercest NFC West rivalry of the past 20 years, between the 49ers and Seahawks.

On the all-time scoreboard, San Francisco is behind Seattle (30-22), but over the past two seasons, they have closed the gap. Currently leading their competitors by five games, the 49ers are undefeated. On the other side, quarterback Russell Wilson, who is 17-4 against San Francisco, has not played in any of those victories.

The 49ers’ most recent triumph came against the Seahawks in Week 14 of the previous campaign, 28-16.

In 2024, the adversarial rivals will reunite twice more.

Tampa Bay Eagles

Last but not least, the 49ers and Buccaneers will square off in Tampa Bay.

The two teams will play each other in 2024 for the third season in a row; SF hosted the first two encounters. The 49ers, who are presently riding a three-game winning streak over the Bucs, have dominated the matchup all-time (20-7). The previous time out, in Week 11 of the 2023 season, SF triumphed handily, 27-14.

For the first time since 2019, San Francisco will visit West Florida in 2024.
