30-year-old information “Strange” Everton transfer: the player admits he never imagined heading to Goodison Park.

Conor Coady was a player who only stayed at Goodison Park for one season. The 30-year-old is presently playing for Leicester City after joining the club permanently from Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer.

Speaking on the Rest is Football Podcast, the Liverpudlian discussed his time with Everton and said it was an unexpected move.

Conor Coady talks out about Everton transfer.
Regarding the deal, Coady stated: “When it came to my opportunity to sign for Everton. The Everton one was unusual because I never planned to leave Wolves; I enjoyed my time there as captain.

“I had been abroad with England and returned a bit later, and I could see something wasn’t right.

“I wasn’t playing for the team he was managing at the time; Bruno Lage was the manager, and the World Cup was in December, and I was desperate to be part of that group.

“So I was thinking ahead: if I’m not in the team now and don’t start the season and get to the first international break, it will be hard.”

The 30-year-old was full of praise for his former club and insisted he loved his time on Merseyside.

“So it was a strange one that summer and I ended up moving. Wolves did what they did, and I got the opportunity to sign for Everton. It was brilliant, I loved it,” he added.

“People are now asking me how I did that. You supported Liverpool. But I had played against Liverpool numerous times and was keen to garner their support because I was desperate to win against the side I supported.”

It was a fairly successful lending period. The defender appeared 25 times in the Premier League, forming a strong connection with James Tarkowski.

However, given Jarrad Branthwaite’s performance, it’s probably a good thing the club decided against a permanent contract. The 21-year-old has been outstanding; his performances have piqued the interest of some of Europe’s top teams.
