Ridiculous’ – Jim White and Martin Keown clash over Everton appeal update live on talkSPORT

Everton: Martin Keown and Jim White clash over ‘ridiculous’ Premier League appeal on talkSPORT.

Martin Keown has conceded that it is “ridiculous” that Everton are yet to receive the outcome of their appeal against their 10-point deduction for profit and sustainability breaches.

The Toffees’ appeal was considered by an independent committee that concluded at the beginning of February, but Sean Dyche’s side has yet to learn whether or not they will recoup any points, which he has hinted is mentally impacting his team.

While Jim White believes it is completely normal that Everton stars may be impacted by the looming allegation, Keown believes Dyche is utilizing the effect on his players to try to hurry up the process.

On talkSPORT on Friday (23 February, 10:25), he stated, “It’s not ideal but I’m a little bit surprised that Sean Dyche is using this, but he will won’t he?”.

White replied, “Is he using it? I believe the evidence is there, and while they are not doing what they should be doing on the field, which is scoring points, they have now gone eight games without a win. There was an early rebound following the revelation of the 10-point deduction.

Keown responded, stating, “He’s trying to accelerate the speed; it’s insane how long it’s taking to get back on it. We heard that we’d find out this week.

“They told us this week that there would be some sort of conclusion over whether they would regain some kind of points or not, but we haven’t heard anything.”

Keown is correct in stating that it is “ridiculous” that Everton players and supporters have had to wait so long to find out whether or not their appeal was successful, as the consequences of the punishment have been unknown.

It has to be seen whether the delay has an affect on the players, as Dyche has hinted, but it is impossible for those at Goodison to plan for the future and avoid relegation if they don’t know what is coming.

Hopefully, some clarity will come sooner rather than later. Once the first allegation is resolved, focus will go to the second alleged breach, creating additional uncertainty on Merseyside.

The Premier League has yet to approve 777 Partners’ purchase, thus events are ongoing. The league appears to be out to get the Toffees right now, with a string of “ridiculous” judgments.
