Rangers: Steven Pressley delivers ‘Convincing’ verdict amid Scottish Premiership title race

Rangers: Steven Pressley delivers ‘Convincing’ verdict amid Scottish Premiership title race.

Steven Pressley is sure that Rangers will beat Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title this season, having not been fooled by the Hoops.

The Gers’ most recent victory, a convincing 3-0 decision against St Johnstone on Sunday 18 February, saw them rise above Brendan Rodgers’ side into top position.

Philippe Clement has overseen a fast ascent at Ibrox, replacing the controversial Michael Beale as manager in October, and the former Rangers and Celtic defender feels they have what it takes to win the championship.

Speaking via PLZ Soccer on Thursday (22 February), Pressley said: “I think, at this moment in time, if you were to ask me to put my neck on the line, I would say that Rangers will win the title this year.

“Nothing has convinced me from the other side of the city. I don’t think during this campaign that they’ve been convincing in any shape or form.

“And now I see a Rangers side that are very much united and focused and have great momentum at this moment in time. They’re in pole position and I don’t see them giving it up.”

Are Rangers likely to take the Scottish Premiership trophy?

All things considered, Pressley could very much be true in his prognosis. And having played for both sides of the Old Firm rivalry, it is safe to infer that he has no favourites.

The Scottish Premiership will likely be determined by the remaining Old Firm derbies, with just two points separating the two sides at this moment in time.

However, things may potentially change, with Rangers looking in good form and Celtic slipping behind in recent weeks after 1-1 draws with Aberdeen and Kilmarnock.

It would take another turn of events for Clement not to raise the Scottish Premiership trophy this season, considering he has only lost one competitive match as manager at Ibrox.

There are few matches that could trip up either club, but that is not to say it is absolutely impossible, especially given Celtic’s missed points in February.

In other Rangers news, Keith Jackson has mooted legitimate Celtic questions as a Gers claim has been made.
