Nottingham Forest defender Gonzalo Montiel looks to be on the mend following his injury issues and has now been spotted in training.
The defender has been snapped by the club’s official media.
So, what is the situation with Montiel and is he ready to return for Forest? Let’s take a closer look…
Gonzalo Montiel spotted in Nottingham Forest training
Given that Montiel appears to be headed back, this has to be considered a positive step.
The club’s official media team has released some training film, showing Montiel in action.
In addition, it appears that he participated in a small-sided game that was played during today’s session and was on the winning team.
Another Forest player who has flourished under Nuno Espirito Santo is Montiel, who was given the opportunity to shine.
The 27-year-old may still be working on becoming more consistent, but he has shown himself to be a valuable offensive weapon.
Although Montiel did not play in either of the games against West Ham or Newcastle, his fitness will now be discussed in front of this weekend.
Montiel might have to wait patiently for his chance again
Montiel has essentially been granted the right-back position by Espirito Santo, but it would be unfair to suddenly bench his Forest teammate Neco Williams.
He was excellent last weekend, and Forest’s second goal was made possible by his diligent work on the right.
Williams had a very bad 2022–2023 season in which he found it difficult to overtake Serge Aurier. However, he has come on this season.
Every team would be happy to have two players for every position, and Forest is no different.
With Williams riding a wave and Montiel apparently on the verge of a comeback, Forest appears to be well-stocked in that area right now.
Throw Ola Aina into the mix as well and things are looking very rosy indeed for Forest when it comes to the full-back positions.
