News Flash: Former Arsenal executive David Dein addresses the Premier League on 777 Partners’ acquisition

According to The Athletic, former Arsenal CEO David Dein has been phoning the Premier League frequently regarding the status of 777 Partners’ takeover of Everton.

On Friday, February 23, the newspaper revealed on its website that Dein, who predicted Farhad Moshiri to take over at Goodison Park, has kept in touch with the Premier League in an attempt to ascertain why 777’s clearance process is taking so long.

Even though Dein has been calling the people running England’s top flight on a regular basis, the Premier League has not indicated that a decision about 777 Partners’ takeover would be made anytime soon. The takeover is currently in its 23rd week of a supposedly 12-week approval process.

Dein’s connection to Sir Philip Carter, with whom he collaborated to establish the Premier League, is what prompted him to become interested in the takeover.

When will 777 Partners finish acquiring Everton?

The Premier League had to be sick and tired of keeping Everton fans in the dark about 777’s takeover, especially when they are still waiting to hear about their appeal against their 10-point deduction for PSR violations.

The majority of Goodison Park supporters have expressed their views through different protests in recent weeks, with the sense being that the Premier League is currently at war with the Toffees.

It’s encouraging to see that influential players like Jamie Carragher and Jim White are raising issues with the Premier League, regardless of whether Dein’s incessant probing will advance the conversation.

It is absurd that this takeover has been able to rage on for so long without any substantive answers from either side, so perhaps this additional pressure will finally lead to supporters receiving the answers they have been waiting for.
