‘He’s too difficult.’ James Garner claims the player Man City released in 2023 …

‘Couldn’t really get near him’… James Garner says player Man City let go in 2023 was unplayable.

James Garner has picked former Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan as the most difficult opponent he has faced.

After seven years at Manchester United, the German signed for Barcelona as a free agent during the previous summer transfer window.

After leading City to a historic Treble, Gundogan has been referenced by a current Premier League player who was unable to prevent Pep Guardiola’s side from winning the league title last season.

Garner said Gundogan is the most difficult opponent he has faced.

In a Tik Tok video on Everton’s channel, Garner revealed his thoughts on the toughest opponent he has faced.

He stated: “Gundogan last year. I just couldn’t get near him, and he ended up with two goals and an assist.”

Looking back at the 3-0 win over the Toffees that Garner is referring to, Gundogan only got 43 touches of the ball in the 78 minutes he was on the field yet had such a huge impact on the outcome.

This performance earned the midfielder a solid match rating of 8.9/10 from SofaScore, making him the highest-rated player on the day, and it’s easy to see why Garner now says Gundogan was the toughest opponent he’s ever faced.

Later, the German international demonstrated his importance to the Citizens by scoring both goals in their 2-1 FA Cup final victory over Manchester United.

Since joining Barcelona, the 33-year-old has scored five goals and provided six assists in 25 La Liga outings, demonstrating his value as a midfielder.
