Celtic tracking highly-rated prolific Irish talent from EFL side.
Celtic are apparently interested in highly regarded Irish striker Patrick Casey. The Ireland U19s star is now playing for EFL League One club Charlton Athletic, but considering their fragile position at the bottom of the table, they may struggle to maintain the striker.
According to Football Insider, Celtic are battling with Brighton and Swiss clubs to sign Casey. Casey has demonstrated his accurate finishing ability as he rises through the Charlton youth ranks, scoring 31 goals this season.
Brighton’s interest in Casey is unsurprising, considering their success with Ivan Ferguson. Casey would not be a Celtic first-team acquisition, but the player, who made his Charlton debut this year, is a future prospect. The issue is where he slots in with Celtic B, who play in the Lowland League. It’s hardly a tempting alternative. Having said that, Bosun Lawal’s ascent from the Lowland League to now playing for Fleetwood demonstrates that there is a pathway to the first team.
Celtic are already planning a summer reconstruction as No.1 Joe Hart prepares to retire. The 36-year-old is ending an excellent career after finding a home at Celtic. The 75-cap ex-England international admitted that he found himself looking between stints at Manchester City and Celtic.
