Barry Ferguson outlined Celtic displeasure in a three-word message to Rangers – ‘Guys like Callum McGregor…’

Rangers must be wary of a reaction from Celtic after passing them in the table, according to Barry Ferguson.

The Ibrox legend feels several senior Celtic players will be furious as the Gers climbed to first place in the Scottish Premiership table.

Philippe Clement’s side is two points ahead of their fierce rivals and has a stronger goal differential.

Ferguson warned Celtic fans to prepare for the inevitable response, writing in the Daily Record. “Don’t imagine for a second that Celtic would simply wave you off over the horizon to the title, wishing you luck.

“You have to imagine they’re coming after you with a burning desire. You have to understand how much they want to tear you down and take everything away. Look, I haven’t been privy to the conversations that have been taking place inside Celtic’s training facility this week. But I will make a good approximation.

“There would have been a lot of direct communication and a lot of angry males. Guys like Callum McGregor, Joe Hart, and Cameron Carter-Vickers will not take this lying down. Rangers would be making a tremendous mistake if they expected anything less than a ferocious Celtic response to being knocked off their perch.

Rangers to extend their lead against Celtic?

On Sunday (18 February), the Gers defeated St Johnstone 3-0, putting them ahead of the Bhoys at the top of the Scottish league table.

It has been a long route to the top for the Ibrox club, which appeared down and out earlier this season under Michael Beale.

However, Clement has led Rangers to a dramatic turnaround, with the club winning match after match.

Brendan Rodgers and his team are eager to regain their top rank as quickly as possible, therefore the hard work begins today.

The league might, of course, come down to the Old Firm games, with the next one taking place at Ibrox in early April.
