At Ibrox, a brand-new UEFA ruling will infuriate Rangers.

Since the Belgian manager arrived at Ibrox earlier this season, Rangers supporters have united around Philippe Clement and his team.

The Light Blues have changed both on and off the field under his leadership, surpassing Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, winning the Viaplay Cup, and making it to the Europa League knockout stages.

Though it may have been overlooked by Clement’s previous accomplishments, the Belgian masterminded the Gers’ fantastic away victory over Real Betis to secure their spot in the round of 16.

When Rangers were drawn against Portuguese powerhouses Benfica in the last-16 draw on Friday, February 23, things were still going well. It would have been a difficult match, but one that might be won, which would have thrilled both the players and the supporters.

But shortly after the draw was completed, many supporters’ delight was dashed when the Gers announced on their official X account on February 23 that the home leg of the tie would now go off at 17:45.

The second leg of the tie will take place at Ibrox on Thursday, March 14th, although the kickoff time has been moved forward to accommodate one of the earlier slots—something Rangers hasn’t experienced at all in this year’s European campaign.

When does Rangers’ Europa League matchup with Benfica take place at Ibrox?

Although this move won’t have much of an effect on Clement and his side, it may make it more difficult for certain fans to get to Glasgow on a Thursday night in order to witness and cheer for their club at such an early hour.

As is the case with most European evenings, Ibrox will be jam-packed, but many fans will be disappointed that their team will not play in a pivotal Europa League quarterfinal match simply due to the broadcaster and organizers’ decision.

In this case, fans are not being regarded as supporters, but as consumers. With any lucky, the Gers will go to the quarterfinals, giving the supporters one more opportunity to enjoy a European night at Ibrox this season.
