THELWELL ATTENDS THE FAN ADVISORY BOARD MEETING AT EVERTON

During the most recent meeting of the Club’s Fan Advisory Board in early February, Director of Football Kevin Thelwell gave an update on recruitment and the Club’s strategic football framework.

At the quarterly meeting, which also covered the Club’s progress on plans to move Season Ticket Members from Goodison Park to Everton Stadium, Thelwell was joined by Colin Chong, the interim CEO, and other members of the Everton leadership team.

Thelwell discussed the lower spending across the Premier League during the meeting, which took place one week after the January transfer window closed. He also reaffirmed that, despite the Club’s constant vigilance, there had not been any likely transfers to Everton’s Senior Team during the month, and that maintaining the current squad was a major plus as the season approaches its final third.

He continued by outlining how, as part of a more comprehensive and long-term strategy for assembling the Club’s playing squads, the composition and methodology of Everton’s recruitment departments have changed since he assumed his role in February 2022.

Subsequently, Thelwell introduced components of Everton’s strategic football framework, detailing its construction around four fundamental pillars: defining an identity (‘Who we are’), creating a uniform style of play for every team (‘How we play’), comparing every football department to industry standards (‘How we support’), and consistently improving the skills and knowledge at Finch Farm (‘Staff development’).

The Fan Advisory Board requested an update on the Club’s ownership and its appeal against the 10-point penalty for allegedly breaking the Profit and Sustainability regulations during the meeting. The appeal hearing was confirmed, but no remarks could be made at this time. Chong stated that no timeframe had been established and that Everton and 777 Partners were still awaiting Premier League approval of a prospective transaction.

Later, Mike Gittins, Senior Data Science and Insight Manager at Everton, shared preliminary findings from the team’s discussion groups with supporters and stadium migration survey.

He stated that a procedure is being carried out to guarantee focus groups reflected a varied spectrum of Evertonians, in addition to the survey given to supporters and Season Ticket Members on Everton’s Season Ticket waiting list in late 2023.

Everton de Viña del Mar, the Chilean home of Everton, was named after the club, and Richie Gillham, a representative of the Everton Heritage Society, thanked the Club for its response to the disastrous wildfires in Viña del Mar.

The Club and the Fan Advisory Board will next convene on Wednesday, May 22.
