Shaquille O’Neal, an NBA Hall of Famer, counsels Eagles legend Jason Kelce on retirement.

After leaving the NBA, Shaquille O’Neal has had success, and he recently gave Jason Kelce some wise counsel.

Jason Kelce of the Philadelphia Eagles, an NBA great, recently received some retirement advise from O’Neal, a man who has been considering his future in the game. 2011 saw “The Diesel” formally announce his retirement from the NBA following a career spanning over 20 years. With a resume like that, one could argue he has some experience making the move from sports to life beyond sports.

O’Neal told Kelce, “My advice to you is, if you are going to retire, accept it.” “Enjoy your family, brother.”

Then, O’Neal shared some personal insights that informed his counsel.

“I made a lot of dumb mistakes to where I lost my family and I didn’t have anybody,” O’Neal said. “That’s not the situation for you, so don’t think back on what we had and instead enjoy your lovely wife and gorgeous children. We received what we had. People are aware of who you are; you have the ring. Enjoy, as I was once again a fool. And I have discussed it extensively.”

For what it’s worth, Kelce appeared sincere in his appreciation of the large guy’s advice, but it’s unclear if it will affect his final choice.

The Jason Kelce retirement watch continues.

Every Eagles fan in the world is still waiting impatiently for Kelce to make a statement indicating whether or not he will be wearing the team’ uniform for a 14th season.

With all of the fun Kelce seemed to be having off the field, his Eagles offensive lineman teammate Jordan Mailata isn’t overly hopeful that Kelce will be back on the field next season.

There’s not a shot,” stated Mailata. Are you saying that even if he’s losing all of his money playing games and gambling at casinos, he will still return? Not in a manner. It’s too much fun for him. He is experiencing his life as it happens. And I will definitely miss him, dude. Being in the NFL and getting to know people like Jason Kelce has undoubtedly been the best six years of my life.

One would imagine that Kelce would make a decision soon given the imminence of free agency and the draft, allowing the Eagles to plan their offseason accordingly. But the Kelce watch goes on till then.
