Rangers star has ‘agreement’ on new contract nearing, summer headache eliminated in significant boost.

John Lundstram is set to sign a new deal at Rangers that keeps him at Ibrox for next season – and longer-term.

During Michael Beale’s rule, the midfielder was one of the most often criticized players. He joined from Sheffield United in 2021 and played a significant role in the club’s progress to the Europa League final in 2022.

Since Philippe Clement joined the team, Lundstram’s form has improved, highlighting his future prospects. His contract, like those of other senior players such as Borna Barisic and Ryan Jack, expires at the end of current season.

According to the Rangers Review, Lundstram will continue to wear blue next season. ‘The club are dedicated to securing Lundstram’s services for next season and beyond, and an agreement is imminent in the coming weeks,’ it says.

The 30-year-old has made 38 appearances this season and 138 total for Rangers. Clement said of Lundstram in January: “It’s a financial matter between John and the club.

“Both parties have expressed an interest in doing it (signing a new agreement), which is apparent. But we’ll see in the next weeks and months.

“He has the option of signing elsewhere. However, it is apparent that he enjoys his time at Rangers and our working style. Everyone tells me he’s performing better than he was at the start of the season.

“So I want him to keep doing that, and then there will be a solution between the two parties. Did I tell him I wanted him to stay? I talk with my guys every day, so they know what my thoughts are on the subject.”
