Rangers: Barry Ferguson creates new Fabio Silva demands live on-air ‘quality’ verdict at Ibrox

According to Barry Ferguson, Rangers forward Fabio Silva must provide “more quality” in a Light Blue shirt to meet expectations.

The 21-year-old joined Philippe Clement’s Glasgow squad on loan from Wolves in January for the second half of the season, but has only scored once in his first six Scottish Premiership appearances for the Gers.

While Ferguson admits that some players take longer to adjust to the Scottish game than others, he has pushed Silva to do more in the future, especially given the huge sum he cost Wolves initially.

On the Go Radio Football Show (February 21, 16:10), he stated, “I want to see a bit more from him, no doubt about that.” In terms of workrate, he will work hard for the squad, but I expect a little more quality.

“Maybe that will happen; some players may need more time to settle in. You’re not a bad player if you sign for more than £30 million, but maybe he’ll show more in the coming weeks.”

Will Rangers look to sign Fabio Silva permanently?

One of the most hotly debated themes at Ibrox this season has been whether Clement’s striker choices are good enough to overcome Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title.

With Danilo and Kemar Roofe injured, Cyriel Dessers has been leading the Gers line. Despite a sluggish start at Ibrox, the Nigerian forward has found his feet and is impressing at the top of the pitch.

Silva was brought in in January to try to relieve Dessers’ burden, but so far, the Portuguese attacker has done little to demonstrate that he should be starting week in and week out at Ibrox.

If the 21-year-old wants to stay in Glasgow after the season ends, something must alter sooner rather than later. At the present, it is extremely doubtful that Rangers would be willing to pay a high price for a forward with so little “quality”.
