Jarrad Branthwaite, a defender for Everton, is reportedly being pursued by Manchester United and Liverpool this summer.
The Merseyside team seems to have been considering the possibility of permanently replacing Virgil van Dijk, who turns 33 this summer, with a new defender.
Several players, such as Goncalo Inacio, Leny Yoro, and Antonio Silva, were linked to a move to Anfield prior to the summer transfer window; however, Branthwaite is beginning to appear as a competitive substitute.
According to the TEAMtalk story, Liverpool is apparently interested in signing Branthwaite and may make a formal bid to do so in the off-season.
Given that Branthwaite is a player for Liverpool’s fierce rivals Everton, a trade seems improbable, but everything is conceivable if they make an offer similar to the one they did to acquire Van Dijk.
Liverpool would probably face tough competition from their rivals to finalize any potential deal for the Englishman, though, as it has been stated that Man United is also interested in signing him.
Everton apparently wants to sell their star player for around £75 million, therefore Man Utd or Liverpool will have to pay a hefty sum of money to acquire the Englishman’s services this summer.
After grappling with their defensive weaknesses this season, the Red Devils have decided to bolster their defense by bringing in more center-backs this summer.
Among the various defenders who have been linked to a move to Old Trafford, Branthwaite has been seen as a serious contender.
The young Everton player is a talented player with a lot of potential. In the Premier League this season, the Englishman has already displayed moments of exceptional skill.
