Paul Merson predicts result of Everton clash v Brighton in Premier League.

Everton will struggle to pick up three points against Roberto de Zerbi and Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday, February 24, according to Paul Merson.

The Sky Sports expert was “shocked” by the Toffees’ performance against Crystal Palace on Monday (19 February) and believes they will lose 3-0 vs the Seagulls.

Everton has the potential to put some distance between themselves and Luton Town after losing eight straight league games, with the Hatters facing Manchester City in the FA Cup.

On Thursday (22 February), he wrote in Sportskeeda about Everton’s dismal performance against Crystal Palace. The problem with this game is that Everton were awful last year as well, and they won this exact match by 5-1. This is a difficult game for them, and I don’t expect a replay of last season.

“Brighton must win as much as Everton does this weekend. If their manager wants a position at a bigger club, he must improve his teams’ consistency. Brighton are now experiencing too much volatility.

“Everton were quite fortunate against Palace in the end, and I thought it was a pretty dismal performance. Brighton are the better passing and movement team, and I’m going to choose them to win this game.”

Can Sean Dyche save Everton again?

The current manager of the Toffees has successfully kept the team from relegation, having saved them from the Championship on the final day of the 2021/22 season under Frank Lampard.

If not for the 10-point deduction for violating Profit and Sustainability criteria this season, Everton would be five points behind the top half of the Premier League table and sitting comfortably.

Unfortunately, that is not the current position, and the Merseyside club is desperate for points shortly. They are four points behind Nottingham Forest and only one point ahead of relegation-threatened Luton Town.

Goals have been scarce, with only five in the last nine matches across all competitions. To make significant changes at Goodison Park, Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s return to goal-scoring form would be an excellent start.
