How Cowboys’ Dak Prescott is dealing with latest playoff disappointment

How Cowboys’ Dak Prescott is dealing with latest playoff disappointment.

During a recent appearance on the NFL Network’s “NFL Total Access” program, Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson discussed how quarterback Dak Prescott is dealing with another sad postseason departure.

“I know Dak is ready for the next season, that’s all you can do,” Ferguson said, according to Kevin Patra of the NFL’s website. “You can’t look back and say, ‘Oh, I made a bad play, so we lost.'” No, we’re just moving on to the next. It’s over now. So we played that game, the clock is zero, and it’s time to go on to the next week.”

Prescott led the Cowboys to the NFC East title with a 12-5 record and was named a finalist for The Associated Press’ 2023 NFL MVP Award. However, many commentators and fans chastised the 30-year-old after he threw two interceptions in Dallas’ 48-32 wild-card playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers. Prescott’s postseason record fell to 2-5, and the Cowboys are still aiming for their first NFC Championship Game since winning the Super Bowl in January 1996.

“I always like to think, ‘We’re the Dallas Cowboys, every team that’s going to play us is going to bring their all every single time,'” Ferguson discussed what went wrong versus Green Bay back on January 14. “We are not going to get anybody saying, ‘We don’t have to bring that hard against them.'” They are putting their all against us. It’s a “kill or be killed” mentality. We just need to kill them first.”

Jerry Jones, the owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, has a busy summer ahead. Head coach Mike McCarthy is nearing the end of his contract, and Jones must determine how to handle Prescott’s contract, which has a salary-cap cost of around $59.46 million in 2024.

McCarthy and Prescott will have another chance to lead the Cowboys to at least the last round of the NFC playoffs next January, and Ferguson insisted that the squad will put in the required effort to go “straight through the wall” in search of a Super Bowl appearance.
