After the San Francisco 49ers lost Super Bowl LVIII to the Kansas City Chiefs, heartbreak seems to be following them, making an already depressing season even more so.
The 49ers crumbled in the second half and overtime, only a half a step away from their first Super Bowl victory in decades.
San Francisco suffocated when the opportunity to emerge as a championship-caliber team was present.
One of the 49ers’ greatest players and an explosive wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk, concluded the game with just three catches for 49 yards.
With Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle in the offense as well, it can be challenging to depend on Aiyuk to consistently perform when given little chances.
Even though Aiyuk is about to enter the fifth year of his deal, ESPN’s Dan Graziano thinks he may get the job and compensation he desires elsewhere.
“I believe that the most likely outcome of this is that Aiyuk is traded to a team where he is unquestionably the best wide receiver and can get the extension he desires, leaving the Niners to select his replacement in the first round,” Graziano wrote.
Ever since joining the league, Aiyuk has proven to be a dependable wide receiver and was possibly the first pick in head coach Kyle Shanahn’s offense.
Aiyuk has more than enough potential overall to compete with those that made it onto an All-Pro squad or Pro Bowl, even though he did not.
Another team will undoubtedly move in to steal the gifted wideout if the 49ers choose not to extend Aiyuk.
