Newcastle United has now entered the hunt to get James Garner from Everton, but Tottenham Hotspur has learned what offer they need to make.
Garner made his senior debut for the Red Devils in February 2019 after graduating from the Manchester United academy. The central midfielder eventually made seven appearances for Manchester United and spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest and Watford.
Garner made his biggest impression at Forest, where over two stints he played 69 games for the team, tallying eight goals and ten assists.
After waiting 24 years for top-tier football, the former England U21 international assisted Forest in being promoted back to the Premier League.
However, Garner did not see any opportunity to play frequently and carry on his remarkable growth after returning to Old Trafford. Because of this, he agreed to a £15 million contract to join Everton in September 2022.
Since then, the 22-year-old has shown that he is a dependable player for Everton. In fact, Sean Dyche has placed his faith in the young player, as he has seen him play the entire 90 minutes in 21 of their 25 league games thus far.
With an average rating of 6.99, Garner has emerged as Everton’s best midfield player thus far this season, according to WhoScored.
Managers at Toffees will be thrilled with the elegant midfielder’s performance. They are, nevertheless, ready for offers this summer.
Tottenham, Newcastle both in for Everton player
In the event that Tottenham is unable to sign Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, they have chosen Garner as the ideal backup, as exclusively disclosed by TEAMtalk on Sunday.
The most recent report from Football Insider states that Garner will not be easy to get for Tottenham, as Newcastle has their sights set on him as well.
Joelinton’s contract may not be extended till 2025, as Eddie Howe has acknowledged, putting the Magpies in grave danger of losing him this summer. This would leave a void in the team. One star Newcastle is contemplating as a replacement is Garner, who is ready for the Premier League.
Everton is aware that interest in their player is growing. Although they recognize that a sale will help to alleviate their financial difficulties, they would prefer to keep him for a few more seasons.
Everton hopes to sell Garner for £20–25 million in order to turn a profit, having paid £15 million for him. The onus is now on Tottenham and Newcastle to initiate a transfer offer that meets the asking price in order to finalize a deal.
Tottenham has also been connected to a significant deal for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who Erik ten Hag has had his eye on at Manchester United for a while.
However, it will be very difficult to capture De Jong because the Dutchman has given Barca his word about his future and launched an incredible tirade at reporters.
Rather, Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Spurs, is considering signing Garner or Gallagher in order to add strength to his midfield.
