Rangers: Philippe Clement regret emerges as chairman speaks out.
Genk chairman Peter Croonen has stated his one regret over the appointment of current Rangers manager Philippe Clement.
Since his arrival at Ibrox in October, the Belgian has been a revelation, winning 22 of his 26 games in charge and leading the Scottish Premiership.
Clement managed Genk from December 2017 to June 2019, during which time the team won the Belgian Pro League before moving on to Club Brugge.
Croonen confirmed to the Daily Record on Wednesday (21 February) that the longer Rangers can hold Phillipe, the better for them. He has shown that he can sustain success across multiple seasons.
“The only thing I regret about appointing him to Genk is that he left after the first title. We asked him to stay, but he chose to leave.
Rangers turn a turning under Philippe Clement.
During Michael Beale’s tenure, the Gers appeared lost, particularly in the league, with Celtic seemingly running away with the Scottish Premiership title.
Under Clement, Rangers have surpassed the Hoops to become league leaders.
Croonen is understandably envious of Rangers and Clement, who helped the Belgian team win its first league title since 2010/11.
However, the Ibrox faithful may be concerned because their present manager has never been in the same position for longer than three years. If he can lead Rangers to several trophies in the coming seasons, it may not matter as much, but it is not a pleasant thought.
Rangers fans will be hoping for Clement’s long-term stay at Ibrox, as they try to win their second league title in 10 years, despite Celtic’s supremacy in the previous decade.
