Rangers midfielder in transfer limbo as Ibrox exit runs into ‘issues’ amid new club timeline.
The Rangers midfielder is in Brazil, but his debut has been delayed.
Jose Cifuentes is still battling with documentation challenges as he seeks to start again after his stint at Rangers.
The Ecuadorian midfielder moved to the club from LAFC last summer. Despite being a highly-rated MLS star, he did not perform well under Michael Beale’s management or current boss, Philippe Clement.
He gradually fell out of favour under the Belgian, and he has recently joined Brazilian club Cruzeiro on loan. Cifuentes, who has 20 appearances for Rangers and two assists, has the option to make the move permanent at the end of the 12-month agreement.
Arriving alongside Lucas Villalba, manager Nicolás Larcamon confesses that both are still dealing with paperwork issues. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel, as both might make their debuts this weekend against Pouso Alegre.
According to Larcamon, Lucas and Cifuentes struggle with bureaucratic obstacles and lack of precision. However, I believe they will be ready for casting by the end of next week.
“Physical part” also applies. There is a time synchronization between the administrative and operational parts, and the two players require a week of labor to be part of the team.”
It is also stated that both players will arrive at the club with’starting’ status. However, Cifuentes is ‘less accelerated’ in his preparations for his debut in Brazil.
He is still catching up with his new teammates, having arrived later than Villalba. Sam Lammers, who is on loan at Utrecht, was the other high-profile player to leave Rangers this winter.
