Sean Dyche explains why Jack Harrison and Amadou Onana didn’t start for Everton against Crystal Palace

The reason behind Jack Harrison’s benching during Everton‘s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace has been revealed by Sean Dyche. After recovering from a hip injury and joining the Toffees on a season-long loan from Leeds United last summer, Harrison has been practically a constant for the team, tallying four goals and dishing out three assists.

However, Harrison was substituted out of the starting lineup versus Palace on Monday night as Abdoulaye Doucoure returned from a hamstring injury. Just two minutes had passed since the winger and Amadou Onana were brought on before Jordan Ayew gave the visitors the lead in the 66th. Onana, who headed home Everton’s equalizer with six minutes left to lift them out of the Premier League relegation zone, and Harrison, however, provided an additional spark.

During his news conference following the game, Dyche stated that he wished to rotate his team. Furthermore, Onana did not play right away because he had just recently recovered from a knee injury. When questioned why he decided to leave Harrison off, the Everton manager answered, “Just freshen it up, a bit of freshness.” I felt he delivered when he came on. Ama is returning to optimal health thanks to your efforts. Douc will get more physically fit; he had an opportunity and once more found the proper spots.”He’ll get more muscular and fit. The truth is that you win a point on a night when you weren’t exactly at your best in the first half and were much more dominant in the second.”

For the past nine games, Everton has not scored a goal from open play. Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed two excellent opportunities, while in the second half Doucoure missed a volley. Though players must start producing, Dyche is convinced that the Blues will start to take their chances. He went on, “It’s a fact. I understand the realities of what we’re attempting to do. We are making progress and reestablishing favorable opportunities. We will score goals if you just have faith in our approach, but on the other hand, someone needs to have a eureka moment to score a goal because there was enough action in the second half to warrant several goals.”
