Ohio State Announces Contract Extensions For Tim Walton, Jim Knowles, Multiple Others

Four of the assistant coaches for the Ohio State Buckeyes have been extended through the 2025 campaign. Contract extensions were granted to Jim Knowles, the defensive coordinator, tight ends coach Keenan Bailey, and defensive line coach Larry Johnson of the Buckeyes. The length of these re-ups varied, but they always guaranteed that each coach would remain with the Scarlet and Gray until at least the 2025 campaign. Tim Walton, the former coach of the cornerbacks, was also elevated to assistant head coach. Walton will remain in Columbus through 2026 thanks to a two-year contract extension that accompanied the ascension.

Walton was a key player in Ohio State’s successful offseason acquisition of multiple excellent defensive backs. Walton’s pitches were crucial in getting five-star recruits Aaron Scott Jr. (2024) and Na’eem Offord to pledge.

Knowles excelled in his second season leading Ohio State’s defense. The Buckeyes placed second in the nation in scoring and third in total defense at the end of the previous campaign. Larry Johnson headed the defensive line, which played a significant role in Knowles’ success. In the 12 games of the previous season, “The Rushmen,” as they are affectionately called, combined for 33.5 tackles for loss and 18 sacks.

Last but not least, Bailey’s tight ends were essential in diverting the attention of rival defenders off receivers like Emeka Egbuka and Marvin Harrison Jr. Cade Stover, one of Bailey’s offspring, is anticipated to be selected in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft and is the third-best player accessible at his position.
Walton’s elevation and the hiring of linebackers coach James Laurinaitis, who was previously a graduate assistant, complete the Ohio State coach Ryan Day’s assistant coaching team.
