When it came to announcing that Dan Ashworth will be departing the team, if an agreement is struck between Manchester United and Newcastle, Newcastle took the proper course of action. The statement was succinct and professional.
This is what Newcastle CEO Darren Eales said about Ashworth:
“We are naturally disappointed that Dan has chosen to leave,”
“However our exciting journey doesn’t stop and the process to recruit a new sporting director will begin immediately.”
“We thank Dan for his efforts at Newcastle United and we wish him and his family well for the future.”
Some high-ranking officials will be upset that Ashworth only spent a brief period of time in Newcastle.
However, as an executive, it’s always preferable to stay above the fight, and that’s a really wise statement from the very experienced Darren Eales.
Now that some of the club’s top executives are here, they are capable of handling anything.
Eddie Howe has already voiced his scepticism that Manchester United will learn some details of Newcastle’s transfer policy and business practices.
After Ashworth is named, it will be interesting to watch which players Manchester United targets this summer and whether those players are also the ones we are looking to sign.
