Celtic target ex-Hibs ace, Liel Abada update, Rangers set for £2.5m exit, SFA apologise to Hibs – football news

Celtic are interested in a former Hibs player.

Celtic have been connected with another winger, with one report saying the club is interested in acquiring Qarabag’s Abdellah Zoubir. The 32-year-old is no stranger to Scottish football, having spent a season on loan at Hibs from French club Istres a decade ago, appearing 16 times and scoring one goal in the 2013-14 season, which resulted in relegation to the Championship. He moved on to play for Petrolul Ploiești in Romania before returning to France for two seasons with Lens. Zoubir has been with Qarabag since 2018 and is one of their top performers.

He has 11 goals and 10 assists this season, including a double in last week’s 4-2 victory over Braga in the Euopa League play-off first leg. According to L’Equipe, Celtic are ‘assidiously courting’ the midfielder in preparation for a summer transfer, along with Bundesliga club Augsburg and an undisclosed French team.

Liel Abada Update

Celtic are ready to speak with Liel Abada’s agent in an attempt to secure a move away for the dissatisfied winger. Abada, 22, may have played his final game for the club after manager Brendan Rodgers claimed he is no longer in the appropriate frame of mind to play. The pro-Palestine stance of certain Celtic supporters has caused problems between Abada and the Israel national team during the ongoing battle in Gaza, and the player is now likely to leave. According to The Sun, numerous clubs in the United States, where the transfer market is still open, are preparing to strike, but any rapid deal could be hindered by MLS Designated Player restrictions. Abada wants to return to action as soon as possible in order to improve his chances of playing in Israel’s Euro 2024 play-off against Iceland next month.

Rangers ready for £2.5 million exit.

Rangers flop. Sam Lammers could leave Ibrox permanently this summer, according to reports, after receiving attention from the Netherlands. The Dutch striker was loaned out to Utrecht after a dismal start to his Rangers career following his £3.5 million summer transfer from Atalanta. He is having a more fruitful tenure in his country, having helped Utrecht to a club-record 14-match unbeaten run, with one analyst hailing him as a “fantastic asset”. The transfer does not contain a buy option; but, according to rumors in the Netherlands, another Eredivise club, Twente Enschede, is preparing a £2.5 million bid for the 26-year-old this summer. According to reports, the club attempted to sign Lammers last year but was outbid by Rangers. Twente is now third in the Dutch top flight and is on track to qualify for the Champions League qualifications next season.

SFA apologized to Hibs.

Saturday’s 2-2 draw in Aberdeen. The club met with Scottish Football Association representatives on Monday after believing a “serious error” happened in the first half of the crucial Premiership match. Jordan Obita’s cross struck Aberdeen defender Nicky Devlin’s arm, and while the incident was reviewed by VAR, the on-field judgment of no penalty kick stood, and the hosts were forced to settle for a point. “The club held meetings with the Scottish FA at Hampden earlier today (19 February) to challenge the decision,” a statement released by Hibs said. “The governing body stated that the Referee Department concurred that the event should have been reported to VAR for On-Field Review, and so an error occurred. This is not the first time the club has received an apology for VAR failures, and the club plans to continue working with the Scottish FA on officiating in the Scottish game.”
