Tucker says Astros are best team and he’s open to signing a long-term deal along with Bregman.
Kyle Tucker, a right fielder with the Houston Astros, has expressed interest in a long-term contract and has began preliminary discussions.
“Personally, I think we have the best team in the league,” Tucker said Monday as the Astros began full-squad practice. “That’s the attitude at the clubhouse. You have to have that mindset, but you must also earn it.
José Altuve agreed to a $125 million contract from 2025-29, bringing the Astros’ total commitment to the second baseman to $151 million over the next six seasons.
Tucker signed a one-year contract worth $12 million and will be eligible for free agency after the 2025 season. Houston’s third baseman, Alex Bregman, is set to earn $28.5 million in 2024 as part of a $100 million, five-year contract.
Dana Brown, the Astros’ general manager, anticipates making proposals.
“I’m always open to having those conversations and talk it through,” Tucker went on to say. “I’d rather not prolong it forever.”
Tucker, 27, is a two-time All-Star who batted.284 last year, with 29 home runs, 30 stolen bases, and a career-high 112 RBIs.
Bregman, who turns 30 on March 30, is a two-time All-Star. He batted.Last season, he had 262 hits, 25 home runs, and 98 RBIs.
“I expect to have the best season I’ve ever had,” he stated Sunday. “My body feels in incredible shape, my swing feels better than ever.”
Bregman is represented by Scott Boras, who normally advises his clients to test the free-agent market.
“We’re listening to everything the team has to say,” Bregman remarked. “I am letting Scott and the Astros handle that for me. So I can be completely focused on baseball and winning while doing what I enjoy most: playing baseball for this wonderful city.”
