The Green Bay Packers Just Indicated They’re Moving On From Starter With 67 Career Games.
This offseason, the Green Bay Packers will have to make some painful personnel decisions. While 2023 proved to be an
excellent foundation for this franchise, some adjustments will undoubtedly occur. This became even more clear today.
The Green Bay Packers have just indicated that they are ready to move on from an offensive starter.
According to Packers pay cap analyst Ken Ingalls:
If the Packers intended to bring back Savage, Nijman, or Nixon in 2024, it would have been more cost effective to do so before their void provisions kick in.
Extending could have saved:
– Savage: $4.1 million.
-Nijman: $1.9 million.
– Nixon: $1.1 million.
They didn’t; they’re most likely gone.
Yosh Nijman appears to be heading out of Green Bay. If they wanted to keep him, they should have extended their contract to
avoid the dead cap impact. The veteran offensive lineman has played 67 games for Green Bay, starting 22 of them.
Nijman signed as a restricted free agent last offseason, earning significantly less than the market price for a borderline starting
tackle. As Zach Tom and Rasheed Walker emerged, Nijman was relegated to a swing tackle role for most of 2023.
This was due to left tackle David Bakhtiari missing all but one game last season. Because of Green Bay’s ongoing cap
situation, it’s safe to presume he’ll sign elsewhere in free agency.
