You can only applaud the levels of incompetence down at Sunderland.
Following their FA Cup draw with Newcastle United, they acted quickly to fire Tony Mowbray in December, despite the fact that he appeared to be doing a respectable job.
Before Michael Beale had managed a single game, the Mackems seemed to despise the manager that Sunderland had managed to appoint.
After that, we witnessed firsthand the very genuine degrees of ignorance on Wearside, as evidenced by the Black Cats’ pub antics and other happenings.
While the Sunderland supporters, who had likely had their flag display designed by a six-year-old, contributed to the humour with one of the most shoddy-looking displays ever put together.
Then, in what was undoubtedly one of the most straightforward derby victories in history, Newcastle United humiliated Michael Beale and his Sunderland team on the pitch.
Michael Beale was now forced to leave Sunderland after just 12 games by the supporters, as the team announced in an official statement on Monday afternoon (see below).
The Sunderland hierarchy revealed the thirteen managers who have overseen games over the previous nine years—that number does not even include those who have been called interim managers during that period.
After serving as a caretaker in the past, Michael Dodds has been named the team’s “interim” manager until the end of the season. which, barring an even poorer performance than Michael Beale, will surely see him keep his position into the upcoming season.

Sunderland official announcement – 19 February 2024:
‘Sunderland AFC has appointed Mike Dodds as the Club’s interim Head Coach.
Michael Beale is leaving the Stadium of Light immediately, and Dodds will be the team’s leader until the end of the 2023–24 season.
Dodds, who has been a part of the Club’s coaching staff since August 2021, took the helm of the Black Cats earlier in the season and led them to consecutive victories in the Sky Bet Championship.
Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman said:
“The news that Michael is quitting Sunderland AFC disappoints us. Since it hasn’t been obvious that we want to improve, we accept full responsibility and believe that taking decisive action is in the best interests of the Club. Michael goes with our best wishes for the future; these have been a trying few months for him. In order to guarantee that we finish as high in the league as possible, our attention is now on the players and helping Mike Dodds in the remaining games. We will keep our supporters informed when new information becomes available.
