Premier League have legal twist on mind after Everton appeal update

Dan Plumley has insisted that the Premier League will have legal developments on their minds as Everton awaits the answer to their appeal on the points deduction.

There have been rumours that a legal civil war between elite teams is imminent, with penalties for both Nottingham Forest and the Toffees potentially unleashing the floodgates.

The football finance specialist acknowledged that when the Premier League “go after” teams, everything is up in the air because relegated clubs are also threatening legal action.

“I still think it must be on their radar,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“There’s a chance that if you start charging and then completely change that charge, people will say, ‘How can you govern that league if you’re not prepared to follow through on some of that?’ So I think we’ve seen some of that in the Premier League’s determination to really go after clubs.'” This is probably the reason, returning to the Everton situation, why we will see some sort of points deduction stick.

“I know there have been talks about possible legal cases and we’ve seen potential lawsuits, but again, I think it takes a team effort and a lot of time and money. In the case of Leeds and Leicester, they still have work to do, which is to return to the Premier League.

“To try and put that to rest, I think a lot of that is up in the air. I’m not saying it’s not possible, but I think the Premier League will be aware of it, which is why we will see some deductions and making it stick.”

Premier League against the rest as Everton wait for answers

Although Everton is rumoured to have been waiting for a decision for the past week, no information regarding the potential return of those ten points has surfaced.

In spite of his recent declarations to the contrary, Sean Dyche will probably be focusing on Monday’s crucial Premier League matchup against Crystal Palace [19 February].
