‘Mess’ – Gary Neville shares Everton points deduction verdict…

Gary Neville described the potential for more points deductions in the Premier League this season as a “mess” as Everton wait to hear if they will have their initial punishment reduced.

In November, the Toffees received a 10 point deduction for breaking the Profit and Sustainability regulations.

Everton filed an appeal against the order, and they are currently awaiting word on the result of their legal battle.

But the fact that Nottingham Forest and Everton were both charged with a second offence in January has further complicated the situation.

Everton has a chance to escape the relegation zone if they can avoid losing to Crystal Palace on Monday after Luton Town’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United on Sunday. However, Neville, a co-commentator on Sky Sports Football, believes there will be many fights ahead.

“It’s a mess the points deduction thing with obviously Nottingham Forest involved in that as well,” he said.

“It will be a dogfight legally you can imagine at the end of the season if Everton or Forest or others get points deducted. In Everton’s case added back maybe.”

Premier League in a mess over Everton points deduction decision

This problem has been handled in an absolutely chaotic manner.

For starters, the first penalty seemed to come out of thin air. We are quickly running out of time to resolve this matter before the conclusion of the season because the appeal’s decision must be heard before the second charge can be reviewed.

Just one point below Luton, Everton is currently in the relegation zone. Theoretically, because of the second charge, some of those points could be added back and some removed.

Quite frankly, this needs to be fixed immediately lest we find ourselves in a situation where decisions about who rises and falls are made in court.

Financial fair play regulations are a nice idea, but their execution hasn’t actually worked as intended. Neville is correct—it is a complete disaster.
