With 12 games remaining, Sutton was blunt about the team’s performance and its wider ramifications for the season.
Rangers play on Sunday in an attempt to take the top spot in the league.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Sutton emphasized that although Celtic’s recent performance seems encouraging, it has just covered up
underlying problems with the team’s play. He continued by saying that no player has made any progress under
Rodgers this year, which is concerning for a team that has always taken pride in developing talent.
“Let’s get this straight, the outcome wasn’t very shocking,” he stated. Celtic has had a really mediocre season. I am aware that
Brendan was discussing winning eight of the previous nine games and their recent form.
“The victories have essentially covered up the holes. There haven’t been any performances. Celtic is not a good team this season;
they are not fooling anyone. Everyone is talking about the board, signings, and how long this moment has been coming.
However, Brendan Rodgers needs to accept accountability. This season at Celtic, I cannot think of a single player that he has improved, and that is the manager’s fault.
“You consider the points that Celtic has given up on the home court. Forget about the disastrous Champions League campaign. In a nutshell, Celtic hasn’t done well on the domestic front.
I cannot recall the last time a Celtic team was outplayed in halves of football by as many clubs as they have been this season. Brendan has responsibility for this.
“So, why is that? We’ve discussed the wide players. It was fast and furious under Ange Postecolgou.
They play a plodding, predictable type of football. There is no fear factor at this time. Teams like to beat their
opponents, thus the Kilmarnock result came as no surprise to everyone.
Celtic are potentially adrift in the title battle, despite having an eight-point lead just a few months ago.
Celtic have paid the price for dropping points at home, especially after winning both derbies this season.
