The coaching staff of the Ohio State Buckeyes is complete following a thrilling offseason. James Lauinaitis, a graduate assistant, was promoted to linebackers coach on Thursday, according to coach Ryan Day. Following the appointment of Bill O’Brien as offensive coordinator, who left Columbus to take a head coaching position at Boston College, the former head coach of the UCLA Bruins was named offensive coordinator.

Day stated on Friday from the seminar hosted by the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association. Day played for Kelly at New Hampshire while Kelly was the offensive coordinator there, thus Day and Kelly are acquainted. Day was Kelly’s quarterback coach while he was employed with the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers. “Obviously, Chip and I have a long history together, so our perspectives are similar. And seeing him take off here has been fantastic,” Day remarked. It’s been a terrific start; he’s quite excited to meet the guys and wander about the building. It’s fantastic,” said Day. “I just know how much I enjoy having Chip by my side.”

Laurinaitis only has one season left. Day chose to elevate him after seeing what he had done as a graduate assistant during that first year.
