Buckeyes Coach Ryan Day Fills Out Ohio State Coaching Staff

Buckeyes Coach Ryan Day Fills Out Ohio State Coaching Staff.

Following an exciting summer, the Ohio State Buckeyes’ coaching staff has been finalized. Coach Ryan Day announced Thursday

that James Lauinaitis, a graduate assistant, has been promoted to linebacker coach. That comes on the heels of former UCLA

Bruins head coach being named offensive coordinator, replacing Bill O’Brien, who left Columbus to become head coach at Boston College.

Day expressed satisfaction with the staff’s work, which is now complete. “It is our responsibility every year to recognize which

areas need to be improved, whether with the team or with the employees. And we’ve worked really hard and spent a lot of time

thinking about who should be in those seats. So now it’s time to get to work,” Day said on Friday at the Ohio High School Football Coaches’ Association clinic.

Day and Kelly are familiar with one another, having played under Kelly at New Hampshire while Kelly was the offensive

coordinator. Day previously served as Kelly’s quarterback coach for the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers. “Chip and I have a long history together, so we see things the same way.

And it’s been fantastic to get him started here,” Day stated. “He’s had a lot of fun wandering around the building and meeting the guys, so it’s been a good start. “It’s great,” Day added.

“All I know is I love having Chip on my side.” Laurinaitis had only one season of experience as a graduate assistant, and Day decided to promote him based on what he saw in that first year.

“First and foremost, he is familiar with and enthusiastic about Ohio State. “He has credibility with the players and recruits because he has done it,” Day said of Laurinaitis. “And not only did he do it, he did it at an unbelievable level, he did it in the NFL.”But I’m thrilled with how he’s gone from player to coach.

Brian and James, in my opinion, were guys who took full use of their opportunities on the field. Therefore, especially in the latter years of their NFL careers, they put a lot of what they’ve learned to use helping players on the field as they transition from the NFL to college. I’ve seen him do a lot of incredible stuff.

Over the past two weeks, I had the opportunity to watch him during his recruitment. did a wonderful job. We believed that, given the strong momentum, it was the right course of action. On August 31, Day and his new squad take on the Akron Z to kick off the 2024 season.
