Charlie Mulgrew, a former Celtic defender, and Ross McCormack, a former Rangers striker, have completed their temporary transfers to the 11th division of English football.

The former, who played for Dundee United, retired last year. While McCormack spent some time out of the game following his restricted minutes at Motherwell and Aldershot Town, he joined non-league team Liversedge in 2023 and hasn’t had a club since.
Doncaster City, a team in the Central Midlands League North Division, said on Friday night that McCormack, who began his career at Rangers before having a successful career in the EFL, and Mulgrew, who won five Premiership titles at Celtic, had both signed short-term contracts.

Along among them is former Airdrie and Livingston player Scott McLaughlin, as well as Norwich City icon Wes Hoolahan. At English football’s seventh stage, all four got off to the start of Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Dearne and District in front of around 800 spectators.

Regarding the match on X, Doncaster City stated: “Today was a fantastic advertisement for Step 7 of Non-League Football.” Thank you to Dearne and District for being a part of the game today, which attracted a lot of attention, including 844 in the stadium. To Tango, one needs two.”
The question of why seasoned players have descended all the way to the bottom of the pyramid to play has generated curiosity. In 2004, McCormack made his Rangers debut. He then played for Leeds United, among other teams.

Mulgrew worked for Celtic for six years, from 2010 to 2016. He began his career with Parkhead but departed to play for Wolves. After demonstrating his mettle at Aberdeen, he returned north and was given another opportunity at Parkhead.
