Named ‘The Wee Prime Minister‘, Ian McMillan was a hero at Rangers and was hailed as Airdrie’s’most

celebrated son’. After his died at age 92, both clubs honored him.

Following his passing at the age of 92, tributes have been given to Rangers, Airdrie, and Scotland hero

Ian McMillan.

Known as Airdrie’s “most celebrated son,” McMillan was regarded by many as the best player to ever

don the iconic Diamond shirt. He was dubbed “The Wee Prime Minister” by Rangers, where he was also

a hero.

McMillan, who was born on March 19, 1931, was up close to the original Broomfield Stadium in Airdrie.

The Daily Record notes that at the age of 17, he left Airdrie Academy and signed professional contracts.

In April 1952, he gained the first of five full Scotland caps while at Airdrie, and Rangers signed him in

1958 in a deal worth £10,300.
