Rangers star linked with shock Premier League return after rebuilding career at Ibrox; Nott’m Forest offer detailed.
Nottingham Forest are among the clubs interested in bringing Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland back to England, TEAMtalk can reveal, after the club’s verbal offer was rejected in January.
Rangers have made significant progress under Phillipe Clement, who took over after Michael Beale was fired in October. They are now joint-top of the Scottish Premiership, having closed the 10-point deficit with Celtic.
Clement has overseen a full turnaround in the club’s fortunes, with one of the important causes in Rangers’ change being the addition of new players and the success of some of the group he inherited.
Butland, a former Stoke City goalkeeper, joined Rangers on a free transfer when his contract with Crystal Palace expired this summer.
He has been one of the club’s greatest signings this season, easily replacing club veteran Alan McGregor, who left Rangers at the end of last season.
Butland’s form has been so excellent, and his performances so high, that there is speculation that he will be named in England’s squad for the 2019 European Championships in Germany this summer, despite not having played for his country since 2018.
Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland monitored by multiple clubs
Rangers fans have a new favourite, but they are fully aware that he is more than capable of playing in a league higher than the Scottish Premiership.
Last month, the Ibrox club rejected a verbal bid from Nottingham Forest for the 30-year-old player, deeming it inadequate.
Rangers had no intention of selling Butland in January, barely six months after signing the former Manchester United player.
Other teams in Europe have also taken note, with sources claiming that a number of scouts from the world’s top five leagues have been watching him closely this season.
Butland signed a five-year contract that would expire on July 1, 2027, putting the Rangers in a strong negotiating position.
Clement recently remarked that Butland is one of the best goalkeepers he has worked with, and sources claim he is already a leader in the squad.
Butland has already won the Scottish League Cup this season and might win two more, with Rangers facing Hibernian in the Scottish Cup playoffs next month and competing for the title with Celtic.
Rangers have also advanced to the Europa League round of 16, having topped a difficult group that included Sparta Prague and Real Betis prior to Christmas.
