Rangers links look foolish now that the 21-goal ace has been dubbed a £25 million striker.
Suggestions that Rangers were interested in signing Cercle Brugge striker Kevin Denkey in January seem even more weird
considering that one analyst believes the 21-goal scorer is worth £25 million.
Towards the close of the winter season, a few outrageous claims appeared on social media, suggesting that Philippe Clement’s
team were trying to bring in one of the most in-form strikers in Europe, along with Mohamed Diomande and Oscar Cortes, who
were acquired on the deadline day.
Kevin Denkey has scored 21 goals in just 20 games for his Belgium-based club this season.
Former Cercle Brugge frontman Tuur Dierckx’s comments about Denkey, a free-scoring Togo international, should put an end to rumors linking him with Rangers.
Rangers’ Kevin Denkey links dispelled
“I think Cercle’s system is tailor-made for him,” Dierckx says Het Nieuwsblad of the man who is leading the race to become
Belgium’s Golden Boot winner this season. “He is so strong, of course.”
Denkey is presently four goals clear of Iago Thiago, the Jupiler League’s second-leading scorer. The Brazilian will join Brentford
for an eye-watering £30 million this summer, and Dierckx believes Denkey should command a similar cost if he follows Thiago out the door.
“If Thiago is worth 37 million euros, then Denkey is also worth 30,” he goes on to say.
Chelsea keen on Jupiler League striker
HITC Football reports that Chelsea considered Denkey during the January transfer window. Rangers now have an in-form
number nine in Cyriel Dessers, who scored twice in his Scottish Premiership debut against Ross County (3-1).
Rangers are also hoping that Danilo, who has been out of action since suffering a major injury before Christmas, can still play a
key role in what is shaping up to be a fierce struggle for the league title this season.
