Wolves sent shockwaves across the Premier League by beating Tottenham in their own backyard this afternoon, and Pedro Neto was showered with praise for his role in that victory.
After Wolves’ humiliating 2-0 loss to Brentford the previous weekend, Gary O’Neil demanded a massive comeback from his team, and they duly defeated the Champions League contenders.
Joao Gomes’s glance header gave the Wanderers the lead in the first half. Shortly after the interval, Dejan Kulusevski equalised, defying the expectations of many who thought Spurs would win the game.
But O’Neil’s team had other ideas. Pedro Neto sprinted the whole length of the pitch, beating Emerson Royal to the byline before precisely returning the ball into Gomes’ path. Gomes then used his calm to side-foot the ball past a relieved Vicario.
Despite the Brazilian’s brace, which justifiably earned him the title of best player on the pitch, Neto once again demonstrated why Wolves are requesting that teams find at least £80 million to entice him away from Molineux in the summer.
With that lung-bursting run, the Portuguese superstar produced a moment of genius, and many waxed poetic about what they had just witnessed.
Pedro Neto hailed as ‘outrageous’ for role in second Wolves goal
Neto’s speed in the Premier League in 2023–24 was 36.86, which was second only to Chiedozie Ogbene of Luton Town. It is therefore not surprising that he covered ground at a breakneck pace.
The 23-year-old is incredibly swift when he gets going, and not many top flight defenders can keep up with him.
Journalist Liam Keen called Neto’s assistance for Gomes while running the entire length of the pitch “outrageous.”
This particular instance was merely the most recent in a long line of astounding works of genius that Neto has created, with O’Neil pushing him to new limits.
Pedro Neto is an assist machine
With nine assists in the Premier League so far this season, the outstanding winger is only one assist behind Ollie Watkins and Kieran Trippier.
Few players in the league are more adept at seizing the initiative and creating the game-winning play.
The ability to generate class in the last third of the game even when he isn’t playing at his best is what makes a great player.
The fans of Wolves will be wishing he would stay at Molineux, but they may have to enjoy him while they can, as major teams are expressing interest in their hero.
