Out-and-out dud’ – Sutton shares Rangers squad assessment after what he’s seen

Rangers: Chris Sutton gives Philippe Clement assessment, ‘out-and-out dud’ player claim made.

Chris Sutton praised Rangers’ improvements under Philippe Clement, citing Cyriel Dessers as one example.

Rangers have been revolutionized since Clement took over as manager at Ibrox in mid-October, replacing Michael Beale.

Dessers is one of many players who has improved dramatically, scoring eight goals and assisting three in his last 13 outings.

According to Sutton’s piece for the Daily Record [17 February], Dessers was once considered unreliable.

“Clement has got the senior players doing the business and bringing something out in boys that were tagged as not up to it,” Sutton went on to say.

“Cyriel Dessers is a prime example. During the first several weeks of the season, the Nigerian was labeled a complete failure.

Bringing in someone like Lawrence Shankland over the summer makes sense, but Dessers is no longer the flop he appeared to be at one point.

Indeed, if he can maintain the quality he has shown over the last several months – just shy of a goal per game – he may be the guy

to lead the line for the foreseeable future.
