‘Irritating. Poor. Insignificant’ – Keys & Gray destroy Everton flop live today

Everton loanee Neal Maupay blasted by Richard Keys and Andy Gray before Brentford vs Liverpool

Richard Keys and Andy Grey labelled Neal Maupay as the most “irritating” Premier League player at Brentford following his failures at Everton.

On February 17, beIN Sports’ Premier League coverage featured a live attack on the French forward, just before the Bees’ 4-1 loss to Liverpool at home.

Both deemed the 27-year-old’s attitude inappropriate given his “insignificant” status at Goodison Park prior to his loan return to West London this season.

Kyle Walker, Cristian Romero, and James Maddison have all clashed with the top flight’s “premier wind-up merchant” this season [Evening Standard, 16 February].

Keys went on to say: “Is there a more irritating player in the Premier League right now, with little to back up his antics, than Neal Maupay?”

“No. No. No,” Gray replied, “I knew you’d say that. No, there isn’t. Given how terrible and insignificant he was at Everton, he has a lot to say for himself right now.

“But maybe that’s his character, I don’t know.”

Maupay hammered over Everton failings then loses to Liverpool

It is well known that Maupay’s character, on the pitch at least, is aggravating, which was maybe part of why he was effective at Brighton and has recovered somewhat at Brentford.

During a difficult season at Goodison Park, he appeared lost as a Toffees player, possibly due to a lack of confidence.

The agreement that brought him to the club from the Amex under Frank Lampard appeared to be a blunder until the old manager was replaced by Sean Dyche, rendering his position in the squad effectively useless.

One goal in 32 Everton appearances demonstrates how poorly the transfer went, and it’s possible that his failures on Merseyside caused him to lose the mindset required to succeed.

Keys and Gray are clearly unhappy, but seven goals in 19 Brentford games this season tend to correspond with him feeling more confident, which he supposedly exhibits by winding up opponents.

He was never the number nine replacement for Dominic Calvert-Lewin; he was mostly employed at Everton, and with

Beto and Youssef Chermiti now in place, a permanent deal with Brentford in the summer would undoubtedly benefit all sides.
