Rangers news: John Lundstram deal is now ‘number one priority’ as talks open
John Lundstram’s new contract is the “number one priority” for the Rangers board with months left on his current deal, sources have told Football Insider.It is believed talks are well underway with the 29-year-old midfielder, who is currently a high earner at Ibrox.Lundstram has been a key figure at Rangers since the appointment of Philippe Clement in October, and the Belgian is keen to keep him around past this summer.The ex-Sheffield United star’s deal is currently set to expire at the end of May.He can currently sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs ahead of a free transfer move later this year.However, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Lundstram is keen to renew at Ibrox after a successful 2023-24 campaign so far.

The Englishman has made 37 appearances across all competitions this term, notching one goal and four assists.He has started in each of Rangers’ last six Scottish Premiership games as they challenge Celtic for the league title.Lundstram has racked up 137 games in total since joining Rangers on a free transfer in 2021 and was part of the side which reached the final of the Europa League in 2022.The midfielder is just one of several Gers stars out of contract in May – with Borna Barisic, Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe, Leon Balogun and Jon McLaughlin all currently set to depart.Football Insider has revealed (15 February) that Barisic is now looking to take advantage of his free agent status in the off-season and secure a big-money deal elsewhere.
